Que fim levaram os velhos e os jovens ?
E que fim levaram as mulheres e as crianças ?
Todos estão bem e vivos em algum lugar ;
O menor broto mostra que a morte na verdade não existe,
E se um dia existiu, seguiu tocando a vida, sem ficar à espera para interrompê-la,
E deixou de ser assim que a vida apareceu.
Tudo segue e segue sem parar . . . . nada se colapsa,
E morrer é diferente do que se imaginava, bem mais afortunado.
Alguém aí achou que foi sorte ter nascido ?
Já me adianto e digo a ela ou ele que também há sorte em morrer, e disso sei bem.
Cruzo a morte com o moribundo e cruzo a vida com o recém-nascido . . . . não
estou contido entre chapéu e botas,
Examino inúmeros objetos, não há dois que se pareçam, todos são bons,
A terra é boa, as estrelas são boas e seus suplementos também.

I pass death with the dying, and birth with the new-washed babe . . . . and am not
contained between my hat and boots,
And peruse manifold objects, no two alike, and every one good,
The earth good, and the stars good, and their adjuncts all good.
